Luiz Volpato (born 1964 in Santa Catarina, Brazil) is a Brazilian architect and civil engineer, known for his work on large-scale projects in the public and private sectors. During his youth, he dedicated himself to the production and sale of surfboards, creating a chain of stores that he operated for two decades. At the same time, he completed degrees in Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and in Architecture and Urbanism at Positivo University, as well as a specialization in Business Management at the Getulio Vargas Foundation.
In 2007, he moved to London, where he took part in courses at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and the City Lit Institute. He worked in collaboration with Populous and Buro Happold on the development of the Arena da Floresta project for the 2014 World Cup, with a focus on sustainability.
Volpato currently heads the office that bears his name, based in Curitiba, and is responsible for projects in various areas, such as infrastructure, housing, sports and the automotive market. His projects and participations include the expansion of the Jupiá Hydroelectric Dam, the Taboão da Serra Housing Complex (SP), the Curitiba Shopping Center, the Club Athletico Paranaense Stadium and Training Center, the Alphaville Graciosa Club, the new Vila Belmiro stadium for Santos Futebol Clube, the Cruzeiro do Sul Arena, the Joinville Arena, the Porto Belo Island Resort, the restoration of historical heritage sites in Curitiba, Villa Sophia, MasterChef nas Nuvens in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (RJ), the Haras Valente real estate mega-development and the itinerant Giant Christmas Ball, which started in Curitiba and went to Porto Maravilha in Rio de Janeiro, where it was crossed by the tracks and wagons of the VLT.
