The preservation of historical heritage is important, and to this end, the Villa Sophia has been rethought so that it can fulfill its function as a memorial landmark and also as a building that can be lived in comfortably and safely. The renovation was necessary because the integrity of the building had been compromised. Intervention in the roof, freeing the historic walls and floors from overloads proved imperative.
The new roof, as well as making the building secure and watertight, brought sunshine, ventilation and natural light inside, strengthening the concepts of sustainability and healthiness that are fundamental to any type of building. The flow was rethought to re-establish the hierarchy of the different levels of the house, separating and properly distributing the flows of clients, directors, employees and service providers. The new main access, through the piano nobile located on the second floor, restores the original characteristics of the house and, with its large meeting rooms and auditorium, will concentrate the relationship with the external public.
