🏟️🚧 Public hearing on the new Santos FC Arena
Yesterday (May 14, 2015), a public hearing was held on the Impact Study of Large Developments in their Neighborhood (EIV), brilliantly conducted by the Secretary of the Environment, Urban Development and Sustainability, Glaucos Farinello, representing Santos City Hall.
Santos FC president Marcelo Teixeira opened the hearing, highlighting the importance of the new project for the club and the city of Santos.
Architect Luiz Volpato, responsible for the project, presented the impacts that the new arena will have on the surrounding area. He focused his talk on three of the most important aspects, by comparing them with the stadium that will be demolished to make way for the new arena: height and shading, absorption capacity for vehicles and spectators, and issues related to noise levels and acoustics.
Volpato emphasized the great opportunity for development in the region that the construction will provide, not only because of the square that will be created around the stadium - with stores, services, street furniture, landscaping, lighting and visual signage - but also because of the areas further on, which have been affectionately named "the paths of Vila".
The session began at 6:30 p.m., with the seats fully occupied by the community and its representatives, who listened attentively to all the presentations. Questions and contributions to improve the project were then opened up.
The suggestions were recorded in the minutes, all the questions were answered by the technicians who made up the table, and the session went on until its conclusion. It was clear that the neighborhood supports the construction of the new arena, as long as the precautions - especially during construction - that were outlined during the session are followed.
The public hearing is part of the legal rite and, when it is well conducted and well used by the community, it brings incontrovertible benefits for everyone. The project for the new arena is in the final stages of approval and, with the result of this hearing, the building permit should be issued shortly.
